Austin Davis - Signs with Astros Davis signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Wednesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Davis elected free agency in September after being designated for assignment by Minnesota, but he'll serve as a non-roster invitee during spring training in 2023 after signing with the Astros. Over 52 appearances (three starts) between the Red Sox and Twins last year, he posted a 5.79 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 56 innings.

Impact Already 27 years old and with zero MLB experience, France was the only minor leaguer the Astros needed to shield from the Rule 5 draft. He had a 3.90 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 136:51 K:BB in 110.2 innings at Triple-A while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen.

Impact Maldonado played through the injury late in the year, though you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell based on his numbers. His 85 wRC+ in the second half wasn't a strong mark, though it was much better than his 61 wRC+ in the first half. Whether or not the defense-first catcher's spring preparation will be affected by his recovery remains to be seen.

Rafael Montero - Remaining in Houston Montero signed a three-year, $34.5 million deal to return to the Astros on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Montero's emergence as a trustworthy high-leverage option helped the Astros to a World Series title. The veteran righty carried a career 5.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP into last season but finished the year with a 2.37 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. He also saved a career-high 14 games. The Astros have fully bought into this new version of Montero and now have him under contract through the end of his age-34 season. He should remain in a setup role behind Ryan Pressly to start the year but could claim the closer job if Pressly struggles or gets injured.
