Mauricio Dubón - Back on bench Sunday
Dubon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Impact
With Jeremy Pena (illness) checking back into the lineup for the series finale, Dubon's four-game run in the starting nine will come to an end. Houston moved designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (hand) to the 10-day injured list Sunday, but Aledmys Diaz looks like the first man up to replace Alvarez in the everyday lineup.

Aledmys Díaz - Could be main Alvarez replacement
Diaz will serve as Houston's designated hitter and No. 6 hitter in Sunday's game in Oakland.
Impact
Diaz will make his second straight start out of the DH spot and his sixth in a row overall after going 8-for-22 with two home runs, four doubles, four RBI and four runs over the previous five contests. With the Astros placing Yordan Alvarez (hand) on the 10-day injured list Sunday, Diaz looks like the top candidate to serve as Houston's primary DH in the final week before the All-Star break.

The 27-year-old was sent to to the minors in late June but will rejoin the big-league club with Yordan Alvarez (hand) placed on the injured list. Michael Brantley (shoulder) is also sidelined, leaving Siri to compete for playing time with Chas McCormick, Jake Meyers, Mauricio Dubon and J.J. Matijevic in the outfield.

Yordan Alvarez - Heading to injured list
The Astros placed Alvarez on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right hand inflammation.
Impact
Alvarez missed some time with a right hand injury in mid-June and quickly returned to the lineup, but the issue has apparently worsened over the past few weeks. The 25-year-old's move to the IL on Sunday means he will be eligible to return coming out of the All-Star break July 21, though it remains to be seen if he's healthy enough to be reinstated at that point. Aledmys Diaz is the most likely candidate to see increased playing time during Alvarez's absence.

Yordan Alvarez - Hand injury resurfaces
Alvarez is out of the lineup Sunday against Oakland and headed back to Houston since his previously injured right hand is bothering him again, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chroni...
Impact
Alvarez won't just miss Sunday's game, but also the next three games in Anaheim against the Angels. The Astros hope to have Alvarez back later in the week against the A's, but keep in mind that the All-Star break is immediately after that series, so there's a risk of him missing the entire week.

Framber Valdez - Lasts eight innings in loss
Valdez (8-4) took the loss to the Athletics on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three and walking two across eight innings.
Impact
Although he took the loss, Valdez pitched well Saturday, allowing two earned runs across eight frames while throwing 60 of 96 pitches for strikes. The game tying run against the righty came on a passed ball, and the go-ahead run came thanks to a wild pitch. Saturday's appearance was Valdez's 14th quality start in a row and his 15th of the year. He will take a 2.64 ERA into his next outing.
