Yordan Alvarez - Swats 25th homer Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Royals.
Impact Alvarez has homered in consecutive games, and he's gone yard eight times in his last 14 contests. His blast Tuesday provided the Astros' last run in the win. He's up to 25 long balls this year with 58 RBI, 53 runs scored, nine doubles and a .313/.413/.663 slash line through 298 plate appearances. Alvarez is tied for second in the majors in homers with the Phillies' Kyle Schwarber, four back of the Yankees' Aaron Judge for the major-league lead.

Alex Bregman - Homers in Tuesday's win Bregman went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Royals.
Impact Bregman reached the 10-homer mark for the year with his fifth-inning blast. The 28-year-old has a pair of three-hit efforts in his last seven games, going 9-for-27 (.333) in that span. The third baseman is up to a .244/.359/.417 slash line with 42 RBI, 43 runs scored and 17 doubles through 77 contests overall, while he's steadily trended up over the last three weeks or so.

Impact A seven-inning scoreless streak came to a close when Andrew Benintendi knocked in Whit Merrifield on a groundout, but Montero was still able to pick up his second save in his last four outings. This was his sixth save of the year, which came after Ryan Pressly was deemed unavailable after warming up but not pitching Monday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Through 32.2 innings overall, Montero has been solid with a 1.93 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB while adding 12 holds and three wins as the Astros' primary setup man.

Luis Garcia - Yields five runs in win Garcia (7-5) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Royals.
Impact Garcia yielded a pair of home runs in the contest, making this the fourth time he's allowed multiple homers in a start this year. The five runs against also matched a season high. Despite the shaky pitching, he threw only 88 pitches (61 strikes), making this a fairly efficient start compared to the 101 pitches he threw in 5.1 innings versus the Yankees last week. Garcia saw his ERA tick up to 3.81 with a 1.09 WHIP and 87:22 K:BB across 82.2 innings overall. He's projected for a road start versus the Angels next week, which may be his final start of the first half if the Astros stick with a six-man rotation.

Impact The Astros still have an opening in the everyday lineup while Michael Brantley (shoulder) remains on the injured list, but McCormick doesn't look as though he'll be a regular in the starting nine. He'll take a seat for the second game in a row while the Astros continue to take a committee approach to fill Brantley's spot. Utility man Aledmys Diaz will crack the lineup Tuesday, picking up a start at first base while Yuli Gurriel serves as Houston's designated hitter.

Impact Kansas City worked around Alvarez most of the game, but Scott Barlow gave him a hittable pitch when it mattered most, and the 25-year-old launched it into the seats in right-center field to break a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. Alvarez has been locked in since mid-June despite missing a few games during that stretch due to minor injuries, slashing .306/.444/.833 over his last 11 contests with six homers, 10 RBI and 10 runs.

Jake Odorizzi - Stumbles in return to rotation Odorizzi didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 7-6 win over the Royals, giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
Impact Making his first start since May 16, Odorizzi looked rusty, tossing 58 of 90 pitches for strikes and allowing runs in each of the first three innings before he managed to actually escape a jam unscathed in the fourth. Houston will likely give the right-hander another couple turns to let him get comfortable again, but if Odorizzi continues to struggle, he may have to work things out in the bullpen while the Astros go back to a five-man rotation.

Impact Stanek entered the game in the ninth inning with the score knotted at six and earned his first win of the season when Yordan Alvarez homered in the bottom of the frame. Stanked turned in his 24th consecutive scoreless appearance and has maintained a 24:9 K:BB across 20 innings in that span. Stanek has an excellent 0.67 ERA with eight holds on the season, though he is likely to be limited to a setup role.

Impact Lee hit ninth and worked behind the plate in his first big-league start. He went hitless but did manage to work a walk in the seventh inning. With Jason Castro (knee) sidelined, Lee should have a role as the team's backup catcher. However, it's unclear how much he may be able to contribute at the dish as he is hitless across four at-bats and maintained just a .704 OPS at Triple-A Sugar Land prior to being recalled.
