Enoli Paredes - Beginning rehab assignmentParedes (shoulder) will report to Triple-A Sugar Land to begin a rehab assignment within the next week, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe 25-year-old has been on the shelf since June 11 with a strained right shoulder, so he should only require a couple games in the minors before being activated. Paredes has struggled in 12 big-league appearances this year with a 6.23 ERA, 2.77 WHIP and 15:17 K:BB across 8.2 innings.

Joe Smith - Bullpen session on tapSmith (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactSmith traveled with the Astros for their series in Detroit, and he'll throw all of his pitches during his throwing session at Comerica Park on Friday. The team is expected to determine whether the right-hander will require a rehab assignment based on how he feels after his bullpen session.

John Means - Likely out through All-Star breakMeans (shoulder) will likely be sidelined until after the All-Star break, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
ImpactMeans has been sidelined since June 6 but is only playing catch and hasn't yet resumed mound work. Manager Brandon Hyde previously said the southpaw would be sidelined until around the All-Star break, but the skipper is now hopeful the lefty will be able to return shortly after the break. Tom Eshelman should remain in the rotation while Means and Bruce Zimmermann (biceps) are on the injured list.

Jose Altuve - Gets rare day offAltuve is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactAltuve will take a seat for the first time since May 14 after he went 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and an additional run in Wednesday's 13-0 trouncing of the Orioles. The Astros are in the midst of a stretch of 20 games in as many days, so manager Dusty Baker is likely just looking to manage Altuve's workload by holding him out Thursday. Robel Garcia will fill in for Altuve at second base, while center fielder Myles Straw serves as Houston's leadoff man.

Dillon Tate - Continues solid work in JuneTate allowed a hit and a walk while striking out three over 1.2 scoreless innings in Wednesday's 13-0 loss to Houston.
ImpactThrough 11.1 innings in June, Tate has a 2.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB. The biggest flaw in the right-hander's pitching so far is a 3.5 BB/9, but he's been able to more effectively limit run-scoring opportunities lately. With a 3.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 26 innings overall, Tate could be in line to see more high-leverage work, although such opportunities aren't going to be common given Baltimore's struggles as a team this year.

Mickey Jannis - Unimpressive in major-league debutJannis allowed seven runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out one over 3.1 innings in a 13-0 loss to Houston on Wednesday.
ImpactThe 33-year-old knuckleballer was hit hard by Houston, allowing three home runs in his major-league debut. Jannis was called upon for a multi-inning assignment after starter Thomas Eshelman also labored through four innings. Jannis is unlikely to see much, if any, high-leverage work while in the majors.
