Jose Altuve - May return over weekendAstros manager Dusty Baker said Altuve (COVID-19 injured list) could be activated at some point this weekend or early next week, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactOnly one of the five Astros placed on the COVID-19 injured list last week is known to have tested positive for the virus, and reading between the lines, that player appears to have been Altuve. The 30-year-old is only member of the quintet not to have been activated, after all of Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Martin Maldonado and Robel Garcia were reinstated from the IL on Tuesday. Fortunately for Altuve, he seems to be making positive progress in his recovery, given that Baker has suggested the second baseman's return is on the horizon. Altuve was thriving as the Astros' leadoff man prior to his shutdown, slashing .318/.380/.455 with a home run, 11 runs and five RBI over his first 11 starts.

Carlos Correa - Leading off ThursdayCorrea will start at shortstop and lead off Thursday against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactCorrea will be the fourth different Astros player to get a look out of the leadoff role since the team's regular table setter, Jose Altuve (illness), was placed on the COVID-19 injured list April 14. Per Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle, manager Dusty Baker said that Altuve could be back from the IL this weekend or early next week, so Correa's stay atop the lineup will likely be brief. Through his first 72 plate appearances of the season, Correa is slashing .273/.333/.470 with three home runs and seven RBI.

Cristian Javier - Called up for Thursday's startThe Astros recalled Javier from their alternate training site ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactJavier will be making his first start in nearly two weeks after Houston's light schedule had allowed it to get by with a four-man rotation of late. Per McTaggart, Javier has kept his arm conditioned for starting duty while at the alternate site, with manager Dusty Baker indicating that the right-hander is ready to throw up to 100 pitches Thursday, if necessary. With that in mind, Javier shouldn't face any major restrictions as he rejoins Houston's rotation.

Myles Straw - Back in lineupStraw (illness) is starting Thursday's game against the Angels, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.
ImpactStraw sat out Wednesday's game against the Rockies due to COVID-19 vaccine side effects, but he was never placed on the injured list and will return to the lineup for Thursday's series opener. Straw has gone 2-for-14 with one RBI and five strikeouts in his last four games.

Taylor Jones - Activated and sent downJones (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list and optioned to the Astros' alternate training site Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactThe Astros didn't initially provide a reason for Jones' placement on the injured list, but manager Dusty Baker revealed that the 27-year-old was dealing with side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine. Now that most of the team's players have returned from the COVID-19 injured list, Jones will return to the Astros' alternate training site but could be available as major-league depth once again at some point.
