Lance McCullers Jr. - Nearly ready to throwMcCullers (forearm) could be ready to throw as soon as next week, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactMcCullers remains shut down with a forearm issue that dates back to last year's postseason. The fact that he's on the 10-day injured list rather than the 60-day injured list may indicate that the Astros expect him back before the end of May, though an exact timetable has not yet been provided by the team.

Martín Maldonado - Gets day offMaldonado will sit Saturday against the Angels.
ImpactMaldonado went 0-for-7 in the first two games of the season. He tied for third in starts behind the plate last season with 118 but will get his first off day of 2022 in just the third game of the year, with Jason Castro set to catch Justin Verlander.

Alex Bregman - Resting SaturdayBregman will sit Saturday against the Angels.
ImpactBregman underwent wrist surgery in November but showed no ill effects in the first two games of the season, going 2-for-4 with a homer in both contests. He won't get the chance to keep that hot streak going in the third game of the year, with the Astros prioritizing managing his workload early in the season. Aledmys Diaz will take over at the hot corner.

Kyle Tucker - Stuck in sixth spotTucker will bat sixth for the third straight game Saturday against the Angels.
ImpactIt looked as though Tucker could move up in the order this season after Carlos Correa left in free agency, but manager Dusty Baker seems very committed to keeping him in the sixth spot. Leaving him there Saturday seems particularly unusual, as regulars Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel are getting the night off. Rather than having Tucker move up into one of their spots, the Astros will instead bat Niko Goodrum third and Aledmys Diaz fifth. Tucker has already homered twice this season and can still provide plenty of value from the sixth spot, but Saturday's lineup suggests it will be harder than expected for him move into a prime position.

Jo Adell - On bench again SaturdayAdell is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ImpactEarly indications seem to be that Adell is stuck in a platoon role for now. He started in left field on Opening Day against lefty Framber Valdez but has been on the bench against righties Jake Odorizzi and Justin Verlander. Brandon Marsh starts in left field Saturday, with Jose Rojas in right. That's the second straight start for Rojas, who appears to be taking the at-bats that were previously ticketed for Taylor Ward (groin).
