Anthony Bender - Placed on 60-day ILThe Marlins placed Bender (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ImpactBender underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in late September and will miss the entire 2023 season. Garrett Hampson has been added to the 40-man roster in Miami in a corresponding move.

Garrett Hampson - Added to 40-manThe Marlins selected Hampson's contract Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactHampson always seemed likely to crack the Opening Day roster and now it's official. The 28-year-old is in line for a super-utility role in Miami, bouncing around all over the infield and outfield. It's unlikely he'll have much fantasy value unless he gains traction as a regular in the lineup, in which case he could be a strong source of stolen bases.

Bryan De La Cruz - On roster bubbleDe La Cruz could be squeezed off the Opening Day roster after the Marlins signed Jose Iglesias and Yuli Gurriel, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe two veterans seem assured of spots, likely leaving just one spot for either De La Cruz or Jesus Sanchez, and unfortunately for the former, Sanchez is out of minor-league options while De La Cruz isn't. The 26-year-old's best chance of breaking camp with a big-league assignment might come if the Marlins decide they need extra outfield depth to help ease Jazz Chisholm into his new duties in center field. De La Cruz has shown some power this spring, going 7-for-27 with five extra-base hits (two doubles, two triple and a homer), but he also sports a 0:8 BB:K, which won't help his case.

Blake Taylor - Yet to enter game actionTaylor (elbow) is throwing in camp but has yet to appear in a Grapefruit League game, Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactTaylor was bothered by an elbow injury in 2022, which limited him to 16 innings in Houston. He struggled mightily with his command by walking 10 batters, which resulted in an ugly 1.56 WHIP. It's unclear when Taylor may be able to return to the mound, though his absence opens the door for Matt Gage to make the Opening Day roster.

Matthew Gage - Headed for bullpen roleGage will likely start the regular season as a member of the Astros' bullpen, Matt Young of The Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactGage was picked up by the Astros in mid-February, and he'll benefit from the absences of Parker Mushinski (back) and Blake Taylor (elbow) -- both of whom have yet to enter game action this spring. Without that duo, the Astros will be without a lefty in their bullpen, thus opening the door for Gage to claim a roster spot. He made his big-league debut with Toronto in 2022 and maintained a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP across 13 innings.
MARCH 15, 2023ROTOWIRE
Parker Mushinski - Not likely for Opening DayMushinski (back) will "probably not" be ready for Opening Day, Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactMushinski suffered back spasms early in camp, and he has been throwing for two weeks. Even so, he has yet to appear in game action and is unlikely to get fully ramped up in time for Opening Day. His absence won't affect the saves picture in Houston, though Mushinski was battling for a roster spot as the lone lefty reliever in the Astros' bullpen.
