Pablo López - Strong start to springLopez tossed two scoreless innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, allowing one hit and striking out four without walking a batter.
ImpactThe right-hander wasn't facing anything close to Houston's Opening Day lineup, but he still looked sharp in his spring debut. Lopez posted a strong 3.07 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 115:26 K:BB over 102.2 innings last season, and the Marlins are expecting the 26-year-old to handle a bigger workload in 2022 as a consistent mid-rotation starter without giving back anything in his ratios.

Avisaíl García - Goes yard in spring openerGarcia went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
ImpactHouston didn't exactly send its best to Roger Dean Stadium, as Garcia's homer came off minor-league arm Jimmy Endersby, but it was still a nice way to start the spring schedule for one of Miami's big free-agent signings. Garcia posted the best power numbers of his career last season for the Brewers, slashing .262/.330/.490 with 29 homers and 86 RBI in 135 games, and the Marlins are hoping the 30-year-old can supply similar production in the heart of their order.

Jesús Sánchez - Gets start in center SaturdaySanchez got the start in center field during Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
ImpactThe Marlins still don't have a clear starter in center field, so Sanchez will be one of a number of players who rotates through the position this spring as manager Don Mattingly tries to sort out his best lineups. Bryan De La Cruz might be the favorite to handle the bulk of the action in center this season, but Sanchez and Avisail Garcia, plus utility player Jon Berti and non-roster invitees Roman Quinn and Delino DeShields, will also gets looks in camp.

Bryan De La Cruz - CF job remains openDe La Cruz will continue to get a look in center field for the Marlins, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactCenter field has been the biggest hole Miami general manager Kim Ng has been looking to fill this offseason, but Saturday's signing of Jorge Soler may be the last big-name player the team brings in, leaving internal options to compete for the CF job. De La Cruz played all three outfield spots last season, slashing .296/.356/.427 in 58 games for the Marlins, and the club would like to give the 25-year-old a chance to prove that production wasn't a small-sample fluke. Avisail Garcia and Jesus Sanchez could also get looks this spring in center but might be better fits in the outfield corners, while non-roster invitees Roman Quinn and Delino DeShields will also see some action as manager Don Mattingly sorts through his options.
