Rafael Montero - Starts up throwing programAstros manager Dusty Baker said Monday that Montero (lat) has resumed throwing off flat ground, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ImpactAfter being acquired from the Mariners ahead of the July 30 trade deadline, Montero made just four relief appearances for Houston before being shut down with a right lat strain. Fortunately for Montero, the injury doesn't appear to be a season-ending one, but he'll likely need at least two weeks to advance through a throwing program before he's deemed ready to return from the 10-day injured list.

Pedro Báez - Starts throwing programAstros manager Dusty Baker said Monday that Baez (shoulder) has resumed throwing off flat ground, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ImpactBaez has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 24 after aggravating the shoulder injury that kept him sidelined to begin the 2021 campaign. He'll likely need to complete some sort of rehab assignment or series of simulated games before returning from the IL, so Baez is realistically at least a week away from being activated.

Taylor Jones - Working in HoustonJones (COVID-19 injured list) was cleared to rejoin the Astros on Monday to resume workouts, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ImpactHe'll be eligible to rejoin the Astros' active roster during the team's series with the Angels this weekend. Before he was placed on the IL due to MLB's health and safety protocols, Jones had been serving as a right-handed-hitting option off the Houston bench.

Zack Greinke - Nearing return to mound workGreinke (COVID-19 injured list) resumed throwing off flat ground Monday and could be ready to complete a bullpen session this weekend, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle repo...
ImpactWhen Greinke was placed on the IL on Aug. 31, manager Dusty Baker didn't disclose whether the right-hander tested positive for the virus. In any case, Greinke appears to be in the midst of a slow buildup program, as he won't be immediately activated this week when first eligible. If Greinke is able to complete a side session over the weekend, he could slot into the rotation during next week's series in Texas, though Baker may want to see the veteran complete a simulated game or face hitters in live batting practice before the Astros formally activate him. Once Greinke is back in the fold, he could be part of a six-man rotation now that Jose Urquidy has returned from the shelf after an extended absence.

Jake Meyers - Starts over McCormick againMeyers will start in center field and bat eighth Monday against the Mariners, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactAfter going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Padres, Meyers will remain in the lineup for a second straight game. Even though Chas McCormick was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday, he's only picked up one start in the Astros' subsequent four games, suggesting that Meyers could be ahead of him on the depth chart in center field.
