Royals' Renfroe, Stratton pick up player options; Wright reinstated from 60-day injured list

Royals outfielder Hunter Renfroe and reliever Chris Stratton have picked up their player options

Sticking with Royals Renfroe exercised his player option worth $7.6 million for the 2025 season, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Impact Renfroe began the season as the starting right fielder for the Royals, though his role shrunk after the acquisition of Tommy Pham. His primary shortcoming was a lack of power, as he posted a career-low .163 ISO across 424 plate appearances. Pham is entering free agency, which could give Renfroe a shot to start again entering 2025.

Not in Game 1 lineup Renfroe is not in the lineup for Tuesday's Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Orioles.

Impact Renfroe started eight of the final 12 games of the regular season in right field (five against lefties, three versus righties). However, with Vinnie Pasquantino back in action and limited to designated hitter duties, the Royals are going with Tommy Pham in right field for Game 1 versus righty Corbin Burnes.

Reaches 15-homer mark Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 win over Atlanta.

Impact Renfroe has homered in two of his last three games, giving him 15 long balls on the year. It's his lowest power output in any season in which he's played at least 100 games. The veteran outfielder has added 52 RBI, 44 runs scored, one stolen base, 18 doubles and a .229/.297/.392 slash line over 120 contests. He enters the postseason in a timeshare with Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier for playing time in right field.

Lifts 14th homer Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Nationals.

Impact Renfroe tied the game at 1-1 with his second-inning blast. The veteran outfielder has gone 8-for-44 (.182) with two homers and four RBI over 14 games since he returned from a hamstring injury. He's now at a .230/.300/.389 slash line with 14 homers, 51 RBI, 43 runs scored, one stolen base and 18 doubles through 118 contests. With Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier also in the mix for playing time in right field, Renfroe is likely to remain in a part-time role to close out the regular season.

Impact Renfroe will head to the bench for the series finale in New York after he had picked up starts at either designated hitter or in right field in each of the past three contests while going 3-for-12 with a solo home run. Impact Renfroe has been shelved since late August with a right hamstring strain but got through a rehab game this week with no issues. The Royals are off Thursday, but the 32-year-old should be back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Twins.

Starting rehab assignment Renfroe (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday.

Impact Renfroe went through a full workout Tuesday and will now test things out in a game setting. The 32-year-old could require just the one rehab contest, as he is poised to rejoin the Royals' active roster this weekend if all goes well. Renfroe has been shelved since late August with a right hamstring strain.

Impact The Royals have yet to decide whether Renfroe will go out on a rehab assignment, but either way he is tracking toward a return as soon as this weekend, just a few days after he's first eligible for activation. Renfroe has seen virtually all of his playing time this season in right field, but with Tommy Pham there now and Vinnie Pasquantino (thumb) out for the year, the Royals could consider using Renfroe some at first base, where he has a bit of experience.

Impact Renfroe presumably suffered the injury during Saturday's contest as he went 0-for-2 with a run, a walk and two strikeouts. It's unclear how long the veteran outfielder is expected to be sidelined, but he'll be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 4.

Impact His third-inning shot off Taijuan Walker capped a five-run frame for Kansas City. Renfroe snapped a 16-game homer drought in the process, but he's been heating up of late, starting five of the last six games and going 8-for-19 (.421) with a 3:3 BB:K.
