On mend from elbow surgery President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said Monday that Happ underwent a right elbow procedure in February, but the Cubs expect the outfielder to be ready for Opening Day, Madd... Impact Per Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, Hoyer said Happ's surgery was a cleanup procedure that removed loose bodies from his throwing elbow. Hoyer added that Happ hasn't been affected at the plate since going under the knife, so even if the 27-year-old switch-hitter isn't able to complete his throwing program in time for Opening Day, he could still break camp with the club and serve as a designated hitter to begin the season.
