Stays hot with four RBI Herrera went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 10-4 win over the Royals.
Impact Despite playing just 13 games so far, Herrera already has a trio of three-hit performances in 2025. Over his first 50 plate appearances, the 24-year-old backstop is slashing a robust .419/.480/.907 with five home runs, six doubles, 18 RBI and 12 runs scored. Although those figures are unsustainable, Herrera is certainly worth a look in the majority of mixed leagues for those in need of help at catcher.

Four hits in doubleheader Herrera went 4-for-8 with a double and two runs scored as the Cardinals split Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Phillies.
Impact Herrera missed over a month due to a left knee bone bruise. Since his return, he's gone 7-for-18 with three extra-base hits, three RBI and four runs scored, including an impressive performance in Wednesday's doubleheader. He was the designated hitter in the matinee game before returning to catching duties in the nightcap. He's had a hot bat in limited action this season, batting .385 with five homers, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored, four doubles and no stolen bases over 12 contests.

Cardinals activate catcher Iván Herrera from injured list

The St. Louis Cardinals have activated catcher Iván Herrera from the 10-day injured list and optioned first baseman/designated hitter Luken Baker to Triple-A Memphis
MAY 9 • Associated Press
Serving as DH in first game back Herrera is starting at designated hitter and batting sixth in Friday's game against the Nationals.
Impact It's Herrera's first game with the Cardinals in more than a month as he returns from a left knee bone bruise. While Herrera will see the bulk of the reps at catcher against right-handed pitching, he could be the primary DH versus lefties after the previous holder of that title -- Luken Baker -- was optioned to Triple-A Memphis. The Nationals are starting southpaw Mitchell Parker in Friday's series opener.

Activated from injured list The Cardinals reinstated Herrera (knee) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Impact The 24-year-old backstop has been cleared to rejoin the big-league roster after a six-game rehab assignment, during which he went 9-for-23 with a homer, a double and two stolen bases. The two steals are an especially encouraging sign that Herrera has fully recovered from the knee bruise that has sidelined him for the past month. Herrera clubbed four homers in seven games prior to the injury and will reclaim the starting job behind the plate, with Pedro Pages and Yohel Pozo serving as the secondary options.

Impact Herrera has gone 9-for-23 with one home run and one double in six rehab games with Triple-A Memphis, splitting reps between catcher and designated hitter. Luken Baker has been optioned to Memphis, which frees up Herrera to DH against left-handers in addition to catching as the Cardinals ease him back into action following a month-long absence with a left knee bone bruise.

Impact Herrera has gone 6-for-14 with one home run and one double in his first four rehab games with Triple-A Memphis and will catch seven innings in his fifth rehab contest Tuesday. It sounds like the catcher might be back as soon as Friday's game against the Nationals. He's been out since April 6 with a left knee bone bruise.
