Impact Even though Arrieta's second stint with the Cubs ended with him posting a 10.44 ERA over his final 10 starts, the Padres were still willing to bring the veteran right-hander aboard on a one-year deal with the hope that he could eat innings in a San Diego rotation that's been decimated by injuries. However, he lasted just 64 pitches into his inaugural start with San Diego before he became the latest injury casualty. The Padres will presumably send Arrieta in for follow-up tests to determine the extent of his injury, but if it's significant enough to cost him even one turn through the rotation, San Diego could opt to simply churn his 40-man roster spot for another healthy starter available in free agency.
