Closing in on IL return Royals manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that Brentz (shoulder) could come off the 10-day injured list in the near future, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Impact Brentz hasn't been sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment since landing on the IL on Aug. 23 with an inflamed left shoulder, but Matheny's comments would seem to suggest the southpaw may not require one before rejoining the Royals.
