Knocked around in loss Junk (4-2) yielded six runs (five earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against Kansas City.
Impact Junk worked through three shutout innings before his outing went south. He was tagged with three runs in each of the fourth and fifth frames before exiting the contest. He had given up three runs (two earned) over 19 innings in his previous three appearances. Junk threw 47 of 69 pitches for strikes but generated only three whiffs. He now owns a 3.25 ERA with a 39:5 K:BB through 55.1 innings. Junk is lined up to start in Milwaukee next weekend.

Tosses seven scoreless frames Junk (4-1) earned the win Saturday, allowing five hits and no walks over seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over the Orioles. He struck out two.
Impact Junk wasn't dominant against the Orioles, tallying just two strikeouts, but he effectively managed contact to deliver seven scoreless innings and earn his fourth win of the season. The right-hander now owns a 2.68 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 50.1 innings in 10 appearances (five starts). While his limited track record at the major league level warrants some caution, Junk appears to be finding his stride in MLB at age 29.

Sharp again in third win Junk (3-1) earned the win in Monday's contest at Cincinnati, allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.
Impact The Miami righty was in complete control of this game, limiting the Reds lineup to just one single in this 82-pitch outing. The lone blemish on Junk's performance came on a Tyler Stephenson sacrifice fly in the second. Junk has impressed since moving into the Marlins rotation June 20, pitching to a 3.48 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB in 20.2 frames across four starts. The 29-year-old currently projects to make his next start at Baltimore this weekend.

Fans seven in tough loss Junk (2-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Marlins were downed 2-1 by the Twins, giving up two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter.
Impact The 29-year-old righty set a new season high in strikeouts en route to his first career quality start, but a Kyle Stowers solo shot in the second inning was all the offense Miami could muster for him. Junk has had a couple stumbles since joining the Marlins' staff in late May, but he's made a good case to stick in the rotation as either a traditional starter or bulk reliever, posting a 3.62 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and eye-popping 33:2 K:BB over 37.1 innings in eight appearances (three starts). He's scheduled to make his next trip to the mound on the road early next week in Cincinnati.

Rough outing in San Francisco Junk allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out one without walking a batter over 3.2 innings in a no-decision Thursday versus the Giants.
Impact Junk avoided walking a batter, but that was about the only positive to take from this unusually high-scoring contest at Oracle Park. He hasn't issued a walk in any of his last three outings, allowing six runs over 14.1 innings while adding 10 strikeouts. Junk won those previous two appearances and looks poised to have first dibs on the rotation spot that opened up when Max Meyer (hip) was ruled out for the season. Junk is at a 3.73 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 26:2 K:BB across 31.1 innings over seven appearances this year. The 29-year-old is projected to make his next start at home versus the Twins.

Awarded another start Junk is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Giants in San Francisco, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Junk will make his second straight start and his third consecutive turn through the rotation overall, after he previously worked in bulk relief in a July 14 victory over Washington. The right-hander has been credited with the win in both of his last two appearances while permitting just one earned run on seven hits and no walks while striking out nine over 10.2 innings. Junk doesn't have a long track record of success at the big-league level, but he should be able to hold down a rotation spot for Miami until Max Meyer (hip) or Ryan Weathers (lat) is ready to return from the injured list.

Five strong innings in win Junk (2-0) picked up the win after throwing five innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out five, during Friday's 6-2 win against Atlanta.
Impact Junk has worked bulk relief before, but this was his first true start since 2023. His task was keeping a dangerous Atlanta lineup in check, and he turned in a great performance over five innings of work. Together with his last outing, the 29-year-old is 2-0 and has thrown 10.2 innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts. With Max Meyer on the shelf with a hip injury, Junk might have earned himself more starts until he can return. This spot in the rotation is next scheduled to come up with the Marlins on the road at the Giants.

Entering rotation Friday Junk is listed as the Marlins' starting pitcher for Friday's game versus Atlanta at LoanDepot Park, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Junk will be making his first start in the big leagues since 2023 when he enters the rotation this weekend as a replacement for Max Meyer (hip). The Marlins deployed Junk in bulk relief the last time Meyer's turn in the rotation came up last weekend in Washington, with the right-hander providing 5.2 scoreless innings en route to claiming a win. Meyer is without a clear timeline for a return, so with a strong showing Friday, Junk will likely be in store for additional starts.

Dazzles as primary pitcher Junk (1-0) picked up the win Saturday, scattering two hits over 5.2 scoreless innings of relief in a 4-3 victory over the Nationals. He struck out four without walking a batter.
Impact The 29-year-old right-hander was the fourth Miami pitcher to take the mound on the afternoon, entering the game with one out and two men on in the third inning, and Junk nearly tossed the equivalent of a quality start as the bulk reliever on just 64 pitches (42 strikes). He retired the first 10 batters he faced and didn't allow a runner to get into scoring position, before handing things off to the high-leverage crew for the ninth inning. Junk has made five appearances this season, all out of the bullpen, and posted an impressive 2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB in 22.2 innings. The Marlins are short a starting pitcher at the moment with Ryan Weathers (lat) and Max Meyer (hip) on the IL, and they don't get another off day until June 23, so Junk seems very likely to plug that hole at some point next week, either in a traditional start or as a primary pitcher once again.

Bails out bullpen Friday Junk gave up three hits and struck out five over four scoreless relief innings in Friday's loss to the Giants.
Impact After Cal Quantrill provided the Marlins with five good innings, Junk finished up the 2-0 loss and gave the rest of the bullpen a much-needed night off. The 29-year-old righty has made two appearances for Miami since being called up May 24, allowing just one run over nine innings with a 9:1 K:BB. While the team doesn't have an opening in its rotation right now and should get Eury Perez (elbow) back in early June, Junk is making a case for an audition as a starter at some point down the road.

Gets five-inning save Junk allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings to earn the save in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Angels.
Impact Junk was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville earlier in the day to provide reinforcements in the bullpen. He delivered with a lengthy outing after Cal Quantrill was curiously pulled after just 3.1 innings (46 pitches). Junk threw 48 of his 68 pitches for strikes and was credited with a five-inning save in his season debut at the major-league level. He has worked as a starter with Jacksonville this season, but barring a severe run of injuries to Miami's starters, Junk doesn't have a clear path to a starting role in the majors any time soon. Between the Brewers and Athletics last season, he made six relief appearances, posting a 14.62 ERA over eight innings.
MAY 25 • ROTOWIRE
Selected to MLB roster The Marlins selected Junk's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.
Impact Junk has spent the entire season in the minors, turning in a 2.78 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 45.1 innings. Riding plenty of momentum, he'll now get another chance to prove himself in the big leagues, likely as a long-relief option. Lake Bachar was optioned to Jacksonville to make room on the active roster, and Rob Brantly (lat) was moved to the 60-day IL to create a 40-man spot.

Moved to minors camp The Marlins reassigned Junk to minor-league camp Saturday.
Impact Junk will finish Grapefruit League play with a 5.23 ERA and 1.06 WHIP alongside a 10:4 K:BB over 10.1 innings. He became a candidate to begin the season in Miami's rotation once Ryan Weathers went down with a forearm injury, but it now seems the Marlins will look elsewhere to fill their fifth rotation slot. Junk will presumably still be stretched out into a starter with Triple-A Jacksonville to provide extra organizational depth, though his fantasy appeal will be minimal if he finds his way back into the big leagues.
