Gets call back to majors The Mariners recalled Kelenic from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. He won't start in the Mariners' series finale versus the Astros.

Impact Kelenic has been busy getting his mechanics at the plate straightened out at Triple-A since mid-May, producing an impressive .289/.355/.551 slash line with 34 extra-base hits (20 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs) and 37 RBI across 248 plate appearances. The production is in stark contrast to the .140/.219/.291 line Kelenic generated with the Mariners over 30 games before being demoted, and the 23-year-old cut his strikeout rate to a much more palatable 23.8 percent during his time on the farm after going down on strikes at a 37.5 percent clip during his time with the big-league club. Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports that Kelenic isn't likely to arrive in Houston until shortly before Sunday's 2:10 p.m. ET first pitch, meaning it's likely he's only available in a pinch-hit capacity for the series finale against the Astros.

Impact It's another highly encouraging minor-league stretch for Kelenic, who's now slashing .297/.340/.565 with 20 extra-base hits and 24 RBI over 147 plate appearances overall with the Rainiers. Despite the vastly improved performance compared to his dismal big-league stint earlier in the season, the Mariners appear intent on sticking to their guns with respect to ensuring Kelenic displays improvement in certain areas before summoning him back to the big leagues. In response to Taylor Trammell hitting the injured list due to a hamstring issue Wednesday, the team promoted Marcus Wilson instead of Kelenic, who still sports a problematic 5.4 percent walk rate and 27.9 percent strikeout rate against Triple-A arms.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old offered plenty of reason for optimism with his performance against the Aviators over the just-concluded five-game series, as Sunday's performance was preceded by a 4-for-4 tally Saturday that included a triple and a solo home run and he also hit safely in each of first three games of the extended set.

Impact It's naturally a very small sample, but it's undoubtedly worrisome that Kelenic is already struggling with making consistent contact at a level below the minors. The 22-year-old has dominated at the Triple-A level in the past, however, and given his pedigree, he should be able to boost his numbers up over time while endeavoring to eventually get back to the big leagues.
