Good times continue Duran went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBI and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 8-6 win over Baltimore.

Impact Duran's first homer of the season was showy -- the first grand slam of his career in the third inning. That gave starter Corey Kluber a comfortable 7-0 cushion. The outfielder has been on fire since being called up from Triple-A Worcester last Monday, hitting .387 (12-for-31) with six extra-base hits, 10 RBI and a 1.062 OPS. Duran's had two previous seasons in the majors but hasn't shown anything close to what he's doing now.

Impact Duran began producing his first game up with the Red Sox and hasn't stopped. The 26-year-old outfielder is 9-for-23 with three walks, four doubles, six RBI and four runs over seven games. He's started against right-handers only, and it's unclear if manager Alex Cora will limit him as such going forward, although that should give Duran plenty of plate appearances while Adam Duvall recovers from a wrist injury (60-day IL).

Impact Duran trotted home on an Alex Verdugo home run in the third inning then knocked in the game-winning run with an infield single in the sixth inning. He's hit in five straight since being called up from Triple-A Worcester, going 7-for-17 with two walks, four doubles, six RBI, one stolen base and two runs. He told Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic the biggest difference between last season, when he batted .221, is his mental approach. Duran admitted to letting any mistakes, no matter big or small, fester and the pressure compounded on him. A five-game sample size is far too little, but Duran is showing promising signs that 2023 will be a different year.

Impact Duran began the day with a ground rule double in the second inning and drove in his first run of the year on a fielder's choice in the eighth. The 26-year-old has reached base four times in two games since being called back up to the bigs. He should see his name in the lineup quite often coming up with the Sox currently scheduled to only face one lefty over their next 12 games.

Impact Instead of being a bench option for the Red Sox, Duran will get regular at-bats with Worcester in the International League. The 26-year-old isn't far removed from being considered one of the best prospects in the system, but he has a career clash of .219/.269/.354 in 91 games over 335 plate appearances at the highest level. With Duran down, it appears Raimel Tapia has won a job on the Boston roster to start the 2023 campaign.

Roster status uncertain Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Sunday that the team is not ready to make a decision on where Duran will open the season, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Impact "Like I told [Duran] yesterday, don't worry about stuff like that," Cora said. "We're not going to worry about that right now. We'll figure that out towards the end of the month where we're at." If Duran does make the roster, it's likely as a backup, so the debate is whether to get him regular at-bats in Triple-A with Worcester or be a backup with the Red Sox. While there's still a chance for long-term success, Duran can safely be ignored in redraft leagues regardless of roster status.
