Leading off in return to majors Duran was recalled by the Red Sox on Friday and will lead off and play center field in his season debut against the White Sox, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact Duran's major-league debut last season went quite poorly, as he posted a .215/.241/.336 slash line in 116 plate appearances. His plate discipline couldn't have been much worse, as he combined a 35.7 percent strikeout rate with a 3.6 percent walk rate. His numbers in 15 games for Triple-A Worcester this year are quite encouraging, however, as he's hit .397/.478/.638 with nine walks and 13 strikeouts in 15 games. He'll start in center ahead of Enrique Hernandez (illness) and could get the chance to carve out a regular role if he shows more of his prospect pedigree this time around.

Receiving call-up Friday Duran is traveling to Boston on Friday and is expected to be added to the active roster, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Impact The 25-year-old struggled in his first taste of the majors last year with a .215/.241/.336 slash line and 35.7 percent strikeout rate in 112 plate appearances, but he'll receive another opportunity early in 2022. Duran has enjoyed a hot start to the season with Triple-A Worcester and has a 1.084 OPS through 15 games. All three of the Red Sox's starting outfielders -- Enrique Hernandez, Alex Verdugo and Jackie Bradley -- have scuffled offensively this year, and Hernandez is also currently battling an illness. Duran should be able to stick around the big leagues this time around with a better performance.

Big night at Triple-A Duran is hitting .357/.449/.524 with one home run, seven steals on eight attempts and an 11:7 K:BB in 11 games with Triple-A Worcester.

Impact His best game of the year was a 4-for-5 performance Friday against Buffalo that included his first long ball of the campaign and a steal. Duran turns 26 in September, so it's hard to fully buy into him being ready for big-league pitching based on anything he does at Triple-A. If he continues to keep his strikeout rate around 20 percent (currently 22.4 percent), he will likely get another look in the majors in the coming weeks/months.

Impact Duran has been sidelined since April 6 after testing positive for COVID-19, but he's set to rejoin the lineup for Worcester on Sunday. The 25-year-old had a hot start in the first two games of the season, going 3-for-8 with a double, two walks, an RBI, a run and a stolen base.

Speed should be an asset Duran offers to any fantasy team; he had 86 steals over 259 minor-league games. After belting 16 home runs in 244 at-bats at Triple-A Worcester in 2021, Duran's arrival to Boston was greatly anticipated. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old slashed .215/.241/.336 with two homers, 10 RBIs and just two stolen bases in 33 games. He will not bat leadoff once the regular season begins -- Enrique Hernandez should fill that role against both lefties and righties -- and Duran may only receive limited opportunities to put last year's disappointment behind him. It's not yet clear where Duran fits into the outfield mix with Alex Verdugo, Hernandez and Jackie Bradley the presumptive starters, left to right. However, Duran could force his way back into the equation.
