Optioned to Triple-A Duran was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Impact Duran debuted at the start of the second half and came with plenty of hype, as a swing change in the minors had added power to a profile which already included contact and speed and the ability to play center field. He didn't wind up showing any of those skills over his 27-game debut, hitting .221/.236/.372 with two homers and a single steal while striking out in 37.1 percent of his plate appearances. A bad 27-game sample doesn't come close to indicating Duran doesn't have what it takes to succeed long-term, but those numbers simply aren't good enough for a team in the playoff hunt, so Duran will head to the minors for regular at-bats while the Red Sox turn to proven options in the outfield.
