Impact Castro could benefit from a short-term spike in his workload after top catcher Martin Maldonado (personal) was placed on the bereavement list Wednesday. The 34-year-old backstop is slashing .242/.390/.419 across 79 plate appearances in the first season of his second stint in Houston.

Brought back from IL The Astros reinstated Castro (Achilles) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Impact Houston dispatched fellow catcher Garrett Stubbs to Triple-A Sugar Land to clear room on the active roster for Castro, who will step back in as the No. 2 backstop behind Martin Maldonado. After landing on the IL in late May with left Achilles soreness, Castro proved his health by appearing in a pair of rehab games with Sugar Land over the weekend.
