Collects win Tuesday Familia (1-0) picked up the win over the Orioles on Tuesday, allowing one hit and one walk over a scoreless ninth inning while striking out one.

Impact Entering the game with the Mets down 2-1, Familia gave up a couple one-out baserunners but was able to escape the jam, and the right-hander was rewarded with the win when the team rallied in the bottom of the frame. Familia has reeled off 11 straight scoreless appearances to reduce his ERA to 0.84, but his 1.59 WHIP on the season suggests his luck won't last much longer.

Earns first save Familia pitched a one-out save, striking out one in the win over the Phillies on Sunday.

Impact After a game tying home-run by Rhys Hoskins was reversed and ruled a double, Familia entered with two outs in the ninth inning in a one-run game for the injured Edwin Diaz. Familia was able to strike out Bryce Harper for the final out to preserve the lead and record his first save of the season. Familia doesn't normally find himself pitching in a save situation, but Sunday was a unique scenario. The 31-year-old has a higher WHIP (1.57) than ERA (1.29).

Shaky start to season Familia has a 2.45 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and 3:2 K:BB through 3.2 innings over five appearances to begin the season, recording one hold.

Impact The WHIP isn't a typo -- Familia has been tagged for six hits in addition to his two walks, but one of the two runs he's given up was unearned, cushioning the blow to his ratios. The right-hander still has an electric fastball, and his 96.9 mph average is the best mark he's recorded since 2015, but his inability to command it keeps him from consistent high-leverage use.

Impact The right-hander's 1.80 ERA is superficially strong, but Familia has not pitched well in camp. The back of the Mets bullpen remains a jumble after closer Edwin Diaz and new setup man Trevor May, but it's hard to see Familia being entrusted with high-leverage work until he solves his control woes.

Impact Familia only threw six of 13 pitches for strikes but got the job done and received the win after Pete Alonso gave the Mets the lead in the bottom half of the eighth with a solo shot to right-center. The 31-year-old has given up only one run in his last seven appearances but his 4:4 K:BB over that span suggests he's still struggling to find the strike zone at times. Familia will remain locked in as the team's setup man unless Edwin Diaz sustains an injury or begins to massively struggle.

Impact Robert Gsellman got the start but only lasted two innings, and Familia was the most effective reliever to follow him, working the fourth and fifth innings on a night when the Mets offense erupted for 11 runs. Familia has had a couple of rough appearances this season -- he walked three batters and was charged with two runs in only two-thirds of an inning Saturday -- to inflate his 4.32 ERA and 1.68 WHIP, but he now has a win and two holds in eight outings and remains part of the high-leverage crew in manager Luis Rojas' bullpen.

Impact After Steven Matz was chased from the game early, the Mets' bullpen combined for five clean frames, with Familia doing his part. The 30-year-old has posted a 3.18 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB through 5.2 innings over six appearances so far, but the heavy workload has resulted in only one hold. Despite his solid results so far, Familia still appears to be behind the likes of Seth Lugo and Dellin Betances for high-leverage opportunities.

Feels good after shutdown Betances faced seven batters in a simulated game Sunday and indicated that he feels healthy and ready to go ahead of the 60-game season, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact Betances had already been cleared for full activities back in the spring, but he looked fairly rusty at that time after a lat injury and a partially torn left Achilles' tendon limited him to just one big-league appearance in 2019. The right-hander indicated that baseball's three-plus-month hiatus allowed him to complete more rehab for the Achilles injury from April through June at Impact Zone in New Jersey, where he was able to throw live batting practice against several other MLB hitters. Manager Luis Rojas seemed similarly encouraged by how Betances looks early in summer camp, as he named the 32-year-old as a potential member of a closer committee that may also include Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia and Seth Lugo.

Impact Rojas brought up Diaz, Dellin Betances, Seth Lugo and Jeurys Familia as potential options for the ninth inning, and he also floated the possibility of utilizing a committee approach. Diaz should remain the favorite given his pedigree and what the team gave up to acquire him, but his 2019 struggles (5.59 ERA and 1.38 WHIP while blowing seven of 33 save chances) are unlikely to be forgotten quickly.
