Impact Herget has made the transaction trip from Salt Lake to Los Angeles a few times, and he'll rejoin the Angels' bullpen for the series finale against Seattle on Sunday. Gerardo Reyes was optioned to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction.

In running for closer role Herget could begin the season as the Angels' closer with offseason signee Carlos Estevez struggling in Cactus League play, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Estevez signed with the Angels in December and was tabbed as the team's potential closer by general manager Perry Minasian early in camp, but the veteran reliever has struggled with a 19.64 ERA and 10 walks over 3.2 innings this spring. Estevez and the Angels have indicated a lack of concern about his Cactus League struggles, but if the team ultimately decides to go in a different direction for ninth-inning work to start the season, Herget would be the logical choice to assume the role. The right-hander was effective as part of a closer committee after Raisel Iglesias was traded last season, tallying eight saves, a 1.10 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP over 32.2 innings. However, Herget hadn't saved any MLB games prior to 2022, so his sample size of success as a closer is relatively small.

Impact Herget tossed nine of 12 pitches for strikes in the outing and fanned a pair for his ninth save. The right-hander has recorded three saves in the past four days and four since Sept. 20. Ryan Tepera has registered two saves in that span, but Herget looks to have a solid grip on the closer position for the remainder of this season and possibly into next.

Impact Herget took two blown saves and added three holds over his previous six outings. Interim manager Phil Nevin opted to give Herget another closing opportunity in a fairly safe spot with a three-run lead, and the 29-year-old right-hander got the job done. One of his blown saves in the aforementioned six-appearance span occurred when he allowed an inherited runner to score -- he's given up only one run in his last 8.2 innings. For the season, Herget owns a 2.42 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 59:15 K:BB while adding six saves, six holds and three blown saves in 63.1 innings.
