Pops fifth spring homer Gallo went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Tuesday's spring game against the Indians.
Impact Gallo launched his fifth home run of the Cactus League. There's nothing surprising about Gallo going deep, but at a rate of five long balls in six games is noteworthy. He told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com that he's trying to get his launch angle back to a line drive path. "I'm trying to get more on top of the ball now than I was. Last year, I got a little caught up and got under the ball and kind of maybe got into some bad habits that we kind of broke down throughout the offseason with the hitting coaches," said the slugger. Gallo is 6-for-14 -- all six hits for extra bases -- with nine RBI this spring.

Goes deep again Gallo went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Thursday's spring game against the Padres.
Impact Gallo has been near perfect to start the Cactus League. He's 4-for-6 with seven RBI over three games while homering in each contest. He posted a slash line of .181/.301/.378 in 226 plate appearances last season, so the start to spring training is encouraging. The 27-year-old slugger attributed that down year to the circumstances surrounding the shortened season, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. He missed the first week of summer camp after testing positive for COVID-19 and felt rushed getting into the season. "I think people underestimate how tough it was last year for us," Gallo said. "I just went out there and gave my best shot. I think this year, I'm a lot more loose, a lot more calm."

Impact Gallo homered in each of his first two Cactus League games. The slugger made offseason news when he switched to a bat that distributes weight more evenly throughout the entire surface area instead of a previous version that was top heavy. So far, so good with the new bat, although it is not expected to improve Gallo's notoriously high strikeout rates.

Impact The tech war is in full force in MLB, with hitters searching for new ways to combat the gains pitchers are able to make in pitching labs such as Driveline Baseball. Gallo was told by Marucci that his bat was too top-heavy, so he'll be switching to a new one that distributes the weight more evenly. It's highly unlikely that Gallo's 37.6 percent career strikeout rate can suddenly be solved by a new bat, so there's little reason to alter our assessments of the slugger based on this news alone, but it's at least possible that the new equipment helps him reach a new level.
