Starting Tuesday Oviedo will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis to start Tuesday against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Impact Oviedo has failed to impress in 11 starts and one relief appearance at the big-league level this season, posting a 5.09 ERA. That number looks well deserved, given his poor combination of a 16.4 percent strikeout rate and 12.3 percent walk rate. He could be needed for multiple starts down the stretch, however, as the Cardinals currently have four starters on the 60-day injured list.

Impact The young right-hander made his final start before the All-Star break in Wednesday's loss to the Giants, so he'll head to Triple-A so he can continue receiving work in the minors. Oviedo is a strong bet to rejoin the rotation when the Cardinals require additional starters during the July 19-22 series versus the Cubs.

Remains winless Oviedo (0-5) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three over four innings in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.

Impact Oviedo struggled with his command again Wednesday. He managed to toss just 41 of his 80 pitches for strikes and walked four batters for the second time in his last three starts. He began the day with two straight walks and eventually loaded the bases before hitting Jason Vosler with a pitch to bring in the first run for the Giants. A pair of doubles would score another run the following inning but he was able to turn in two scoreless frames thereafter despite walking two more batters in the fourth. The 23-year-old has reached five innings just three times in 11 starts this season, making it difficult for him to pick up a win. He'll head into the All-Star break with a 5.09 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 40:30 K:BB over 53 innings.

Impact The Cards did most of their scoring in the ninth and 10th innings, denying Oviedo his first career big-league win despite a solid effort at Coors Field. Impact Oviedo worked through three fairly routine scoreless innings but was hit hard in the fourth frame. In that disastrous final inning, he walked two, threw a wild pitch, made a throwing error and finally surrendered a three-run home run. Ironically, his fielding mishap aided his final line by making the majority of the damage against him uncharged runs. Though he delivered seven scoreless innings in his previous outing, Oviedo still has a 4.62 ERA with only a 30:21 K:BB across 39 frames on the campaign.

Shines in no-decision Oviedo struck out four and allowed six hits in seven shutout innings, not factoring into the decision of Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Marlins.

Impact Wednesday was by far the righty's best start of the season to date. Not only did Oviedo yield fewer than two runs for the first time since his April 11 season debut, he also recorded more than 15 outs for the first time in 2021. The 23-year-old was incredibly efficient as well, walking nobody and requiring just 87 pitches to get through the seven frames. Oviedo is expected to make his next start Tuesday against the Tigers.
