Dazzles in O's opener Means (1-0) picked up the win Friday against the Red Sox, allowing only one hit over seven scoreless inning while striking out five.
Impact The southpaw baffled Boston all afternoon, retiring the final 18 batters he faced and not allowing a runner past first base. Means is coming off a 2020 in which he served up 12 homers in only 43.2 innings, but when he's hitting his spots he's capable of neutralizing any lineup. The 27-year-old will need to be sharp once again for his second start of the season Wednesday in Yankee Stadium.

Officially starting Opening Day Means was officially named the Orioles' Opening Day starter Friday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
Impact Means will face Eduardo Rodriguez and the Red Sox at Fenway Park on April 1, lining him up to face the Yankees at Yankee Stadium for his second outing. Impact According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Means is slated to pick up his fourth start of the spring Wednesday, when he'll likely pitch four or five innings in a matchup with Atlanta. The Orioles have yet to officially announce an Opening Day starter, but the nod will presumably go to Means, who was able to offset a so-so 4.53 ERA in 2020 with an excellent 0.98 WHIP and a solid 19.9 K-BB% (up from 13 percent in 2019).
