The 36-year-old will look to keep the momentum rolling in his next start, projected to come over the weekend against the Cubs.

Though he was saddled with a no-decision, Cueto shut out the Royals over six innings and struck out seven while allowing only four baserunners. He'll draw a much tougher matchup for the second leg of the two step, as the Yankees offense has produced an MLB-best .331 wOBA this season, which includes a .337 mark at Yankee Stadium.

Impact Chicago optioned infielder Danny Mendick to Charlotte to make room on the 26-man active roster for Cueto, who should have a full-time spot in the White Sox rotation at least until Lance Lynn (knee) returns from the 10-day injured list in early June. After he delayed signing with the White Sox until early April, Cueto essentially had to go through a modified spring training program before heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment to build up his arm. He turned in a 5.17 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB across 15.2 frames over four outings at Triple-A, most recently building up to 5.1 innings in his May 11 start for the affiliate. With that in mind, Cueto shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload as he makes his White Sox debut Monday.

Impact Cueto remained a serviceable pitcher in his age-35 season, but he's not one a team would pay $22 million for. In 22 starts and one relief appearance, he posted a 4.08 ERA, with a 6.1 percent walk rate mostly offsetting a 20.0 percent strikeout rate and 38.1 percent groundball rate. He looked good enough that he should be able to land somewhere as a back-end starter, but he's unlikely to be a team's top priority.
