Starting at first Saturday Schoop is starting at first base and batting fifth in Saturday's game against Cleveland.
Impact Schoop started at second base in Thursday's season opener with Miguel Cabrera playing first, but with Cabrera shifting to designated hitter Saturday, Schoop will get first. There was talk during spring training of Schoop getting some run at third base this season, so it appears he may end up playing three different infield positions in 2021, which could make him a more useful fantasy asset if he picks up additional eligibility beyond second base.

Impact Schoop will be making his 2021 Grapefruit League debut after he was a late arrival to spring training while he worked to resolve visa issues. Though he's currently behind the Tigers' other position players, Schoop will have plenty of time to get back up to full speed ahead of Opening Day. Impact Many players around the league faced visa issues as they returned to the country for spring training, but Schoop's took among the longest to resolve. He's finally ready to go with just three weeks remaining until Opening Day. Whether that's enough time for him to handle a full workload early in the season remains to be seen.

Sticking with Tigers Schoop signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal to return to Detroit on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Impact Schoop has been roughly a league-average hitter over the course of his eight-year career, though he finished above that level in his first season as a Tiger last year, posting a .278/.324/.475 slash line which was good for a 114 wRC+. Assuming he's in the lineup for most of Detroit's games (which shouldn't be too hard given the rebuilding team's roster), he'll have a good chance to reach 20 homers, something he did in each season from 2016 to 2019.

Impact Niko Goodrum was reinstated in a corresponding move, so Schoop's at-bats will essentially go to Goodrum moving forward. The move is retroactive to Sept. 13, so Schoop could theoretically return on Sept. 23 if he requires the minimum stay.
