Fires gem in win Lopez (2-0) allowed one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings Monday, striking out three batters and earning the win over Atlanta.
Impact Lopez dominated Atlanta's lineup all night with the lone blemish coming via a solo shot by Freddie Freeman in the sixth frame. It didn't hurt that his offense tallied 14 runs of support for him. The 27-year-old righty moved to 2-0 and lowered his season ERA to 5.23. Lopez will take on the Rays at home Saturday.

Staying in rotation Lopez will start Monday's series opener against the Braves, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Impact After turning in a 5.02 ERA through his first three starts with Baltimore and with Alex Cobb having returned from the injured list over the weekend, Lopez looked as though he might be at risk of losing his spot in the rotation. With a doubleheader on tap Thursday versus the Rays, however, Baltimore will likely run a six-man rotation this week that will evidently include Lopez. The right-hander may need a quality showing versus Atlanta to earn himself an additional start or two before the regular season concludes.

Roughed up Wednesday Lopez allowed five runs on six hits (two home runs) and a walk while striking out six across 4.2 innings Wednesday. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Through the first three innings, the only guy on the Mets that was able to touch Lopez was Jeff McNeil who had an RBI line-drive single to right in the second followed by a two-run shot to left in the fourth. The Mets were able to eventually chase Lopez out of the game in the fifth after he served up a solo home run to Michael Conforto and walked J.D. Davis the very next batter. The 27-year-old did have a season-high six strikeouts but his ERA rose to a 6.38 and with Alex Cobb (undisclosed) set to return in a few days, Wednesday's start may have been Lopez's last for the near future.

Impact While the Orioles' defense was suspect, Lopez was solid enough to limit mistakes of his own despite throwing just 44 of his 88 pitches for strikes. The 27-year-old now has a 5.59 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 13 strikeouts across 19.1 innings this season. Lopez lines up for a rematch at Yankee Stadium on Thursday if he retains his spot in the rotation.

Impact Lopez will get the first shot at joining the Baltimore rotation as a replacement for Wade LeBlanc, who was shut down for the season after being diagnosed with a left elbow stress reaction coming out of his start last weekend. Impact After being scooped up off waivers from the Royals, Lopez was called upon for piggyback duties in his team debut.
