Given the injuries in the Mets' bullpen however, with Dedniel Nunez (forearm) the latest to go down, Butto will likely continue to be deployed in high-leverage spots.

Impact Butto entered in the top of the eighth inning with a runner on base and two outs. He retired Lane Thomas on a strikeout to keep the Mets ahead 5-2, then watched as New York added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame. Since closer Edwin Diaz would no longer be entering in a save situation, Butto remained in the contest for the ninth and retired all three batters he faced to clinch his first save as a major-leaguer. The right-hander's first seven outings this season came as a starter, but he's now made three appearances out of the bullpen since being called up July 2 and has picked up two wins and Wednesday's save while tossing five scoreless frames.

Summoned to help bullpen The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact All seven of Butto's 2024 appearances with the Mets to this point have come as a starting pitcher, but he will be used in relief this time around in order to provide some length for an overused bullpen. The right-hander has collected a 3.08 ERA and 38:21 K:BB over 38 innings in the majors this season.

Trouble finding plate Saturday Butto came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers, giving up two runs on three hits and five walks over 4.1 innings while striking out six.

Impact The right-hander threw only 47 of 95 pitches for strikes, but he was able to limit the damage. Butto was coming off back-to-back quality starts, so one shaky performance shouldn't jeopardize his spot in the rotation, but he now has a 21:9 K:BB through his first 16.1 big-league innings this season to go along with his 1.65 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. Impact The deeper and stronger arsenal has led to good results -- Butto has allowed only one earned run over 10 Grapefruit League innings with a 9:2 K:BB. The 25-year-old has also been more aggressive in attacking the strike zone, a sign of his confidence in his new repertoire. "A light switch went off in the middle of [last] year, and he's really turned into a monster on the mound and an aggressive, come-at-you, want-to-get-you-out type of guy," pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said of Butto earlier this spring.
