Impact Fermin has seen minimal playing time since he was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Aug. 21 to replace Nolan Gorman. Over eight games since that date, Fermin has gone 3-for-15 (.200) with three walks, and his two-run single Sunday was the first time he plated a run in the majors all season. The infielder has a poor .148/.246/.197 slash line with no home runs, two stolen bases, six runs scored, a double and a triple over 69 plate appearances. He's got a short-term path to playing time at second base as long as Brendan Donovan (foot) is out.

Summoned from minors The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Impact Fermin is taking the roster spot of the struggling Nolan Gorman, who has been optioned to Memphis. The 25-year-old Fermin will offer St. Louis a backup option at second base, third base and shortstop and he could see some starts versus left-handed pitching.

Impact St. Louis has not announced a corresponding move, but it would seem to indicate that Lars Nootbaar (oblique) will be activated prior to Monday's game versus the Nationals. Fermin has slashed just .130/.216/.174 over 51 plate appearances with the big club this season.

St. Louis acquired the 24-year-old infielder from Cleveland over the winter in exchange for cash considerations.
