Urena scheduled to start for Detroit against Kansas City

The Royals will send Mike Minor to the mound Friday and the Tigers will give Jose Urena the start

Impact It seemed like Urena was fine after he was struck in the leg by a line drive Sunday -- he was seen celebrating with his teammates after the walkoff win -- and manager A.J. Hinch confirmed Sunday that Urena will remain on schedule. Urena has worked around a lot of traffic on the basepaths (1.45 WHP) to a decent ERA (4.22) so far. He lines up to face the Royals in Kansas City in his next start.

No-decision Saturday Urena didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Twins after giving up two runs on nine hits and two walks while fanning three across 4.1 innings.

Impact Urena dealt with 11 baserunners but limited the damage to just two runs -- and both came on a two-run shot from Josh Donaldson in the top of the fifth. The 29-year-old right-hander has been remarkably consistent this season since he's allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last six outings, and his 1-4 record can be explained by the lack of run support he's received. Urena's next start is scheduled for next week at home against the Cubs.

Takes tough-luck loss Sunday Urena (1-4) allowed only two runs across seven innings but took the loss Sunday against the Yankees. He gave up three hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Impact Urena pitched well and was one off his season high in strikeouts, but New York starter Corey Kluber was even better, blanking the Tigers across eight innings. Urena has gone exactly seven innings in four straight starts and has allowed a total of just seven earned runs during the stretch, but he only has a 1-2 record to show for it as the Detroit offense has done very little to help the starting pitchers. Urena will look for a little more run support in his next scheduled start Friday against the Twins.
