Sent outright to Triple-A

Cast off 40-man roster
The Mets designated Hudson for assignment Monday.
Impact
As expected, Hudson's stay with the Mets only lasted through the weekend while No. 2 catcher Luis Torrens (personal) was away from the team while on the paternity list. Torrens has since linked back up with the team and will be available Tuesday for the start of the two-game series against the Yankees, leaving no need for the Mets to carry Hudson as a third catcher.

Officially promoted
The Mets recalled Hudson from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The 33-year-old will join the Mets for this weekend's three-game set against the Cubs as Luis Torrens heads to the paternity list. Hudson hasn't seen action in the big leagues since 2020 and has appeared in eight games across parts of three seasons.

Contract selected
The Mets selected Hudson's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday and optioned him to Syracuse, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
Impact
The Mets will be allowed a 27-man roster for their series in London this weekend against the Phillies and Hudson would appear to be a good bet to join them as a third catcher. Hudson last appeared in the majors in 2020.

Latches on with Cubs
Hudson signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Dec. 14.
Impact
Hudson last appeared in the big leagues in 2020 with the Mariners. The 32-year-old catcher spent the 2023 season at Triple-A Gwinnett in the Atlanta organization, posting a .767 OPS with nine homers. He'll represent catching depth at Triple-A Iowa.

Becomes free agent
Hudson declined an outright assignment to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday and became a free agent.
Impact
Hudson got into nine games for the Mariners this season, going 3-for-17 at the plate. As a 29-year-old with just 33 career big-league plate appearances, he'll almost certainly be looking for a minor-league deal this winter.
