Booted from big-league camp The Reds reassigned Staumont to minor-league camp Saturday.

Impact Staumont only made one appearance for the Reds this spring, during which he struck out two batters and walked one in a scoreless inning. He'll head to Triple-A Louisville to begin 2025, but he could still make a few appearances out of the Reds' bullpen after posting a 3.70 ERA in 24.1 innings last year for the Twins.

Nabs MiLB deal Staumont signed Tuesday with the Reds on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league spring training.

Impact Staumont split time between the Twins and Cubs organizations in 2024, making all 25 of his big-league appearances with the former club and submitting a 3.70 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB in 24.1 innings. He'll get the chance to compete for a middle-relief role in Cincinnati's Opening Day bullpen during spring training.

Impact Staumont just inked a minor-league contract with the Cubs two weeks ago after he had been released by the Twins and the righty has now been cut loose again. The 30-year-old made just two appearances with Triple-A Iowa, allowing two runs over one inning while walking five batters. Staumont looked a few years ago like he would have a nice career as a reliever, but he's struggled to bounce back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery.

Receives MiLB deal from Cubs The Cubs signed Staumont to a minor-league contract Friday, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports.

Impact He will report to Triple-A Iowa for now, but Wolfson is hearing the Cubs could call the reliever up in the coming weeks. Staumont posted a 3.70 ERA in 24.1 innings with the Twins this season, but he had just a 18:14 K:BB and had surrendered 10 runs over his last six appearances before being released.

Impact Staumont's upcoming surgery will almost certainly end his season. The right-hander will close 2023 with a mediocre 5.40 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB through 20 innings. The Royals have not indicated if he'll be delayed to start spring training in 2024. Staumont was moved to the 60-day injured list Friday.
