His next start could come as a member of the Red Sox, who have a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, which would be Winckowski's next day to pitch. Boston manager Alex Cora hinted that one of the starters for the doubleheader would come from the minors, and Winckowski makes sense.

Candidate to start next weekend Winckowski is a candidate to start in one of the two games during Boston's doubleheader against the Orioles next weekend, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Impact Winckowski began the season at Triple-A Worcester and has posted a 2.10 ERA, 28:6 K:BB and 0.83 WHIP in 25.2 innings over six starts in the minors. The right-hander hasn't yet made his major-league debut, but manager Alex Cora hinted Saturday that Winckowski is in the mix to start next weekend.

Moves to Triple-A Winckowski was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Impact Winckowski was added to Boston's 40-man roster in November and will now head to minor-league camp after opening spring training with the major-league club. He appeared in two games for Worcester but spent most of 2021 at the Double-A level, where he posted a 4.23 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 88:30 K:BB across 100 innings.

Impact Winckowski was acquired by Boston in February and spent time at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. He posted a 4.02 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 112 innings across 23 appearances (22 starts) and will now be protected from the Rule 5 draft.
