Scott Barlow - Stuck with loss against Houston Barlow (2-2) took the loss Monday as the Royals fell 7-6 to the Astros, giving up one run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning.

Impact The rest of Kansas City's bullpen had already blown a 6-3 lead when Barlow entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, but he completed the collapse by serving up a walkoff solo homer to Yordan Alvarez. It's only the fourth time in 15 appearances since the beginning of June that Barlow has been tagged for any runs, a stretch during which he's posted a 3.45 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 15.2 innings while converting seven of eight save chances.

Impact The rookie right-hander delivered his fourth quality start in 10 trips to the mound this year on 92 pitches (57 strikes), but Heasley was denied his second win when the Royals' bullpen imploded. He'll carry a 4.76 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 38:26 K:BB through 51 innings into his next outing.

Kyle Isbel - Adds steal as pinch runner Isbel recorded a stolen base in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Tigers.

Impact Isbel didn't make a plate appearance, but he ran for Ryan O'Hearn in the ninth inning. Isbel notched a steal with two outs but was thrown out at the plate on a Nicky Lopez single to end the inning. This was Isbel's third steal in four attempts this season. The 25-year-old outfielder has appeared to take on the strong side of a platoon in right field with Edward Olivares, though Whit Merrifield could poach starts from both outfielders at times. Isbel is slashing .222/.248/.333 this year, but he's shown a little improvement by going 3-for-10 with a pair of home runs in his last five contests.

Nicky Lopez - Perfect at plate Sunday Lopez went 4-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Tigers.

Impact Unsurprisingly, the light-hitting infielder contributed four singles Sunday, including one that knocked in Edward Olivares for an insurance run in the ninth inning. Lopez has hit well over his last 14 games, going 14-for-43 (.326) in that span. He's up to a .232/.295/.281 slash line for the season, and he's added seven RBI, 24 runs scored and five stolen bases. While he's maintained a strong-side platoon role at third base lately, Lopez is almost exclusively hitting at the bottom of the order and adds almost nothing in the power categories.

Emmanuel Rivera - First multi-hit game since May Rivera went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Tigers.

Impact Rivera had an awful June, batting .159 with two doubles, one triple, four RBI, two runs scored and a 3:15 BB:K in 20 contests. His poor form at the plate saw him cede some playing time to Nicky Lopez at third base recently, and Sunday was Rivera's first start since June 29. He responded with his first multi-hit game since May 27. The third baseman has a .207/.258/.386 with five homers, 18 RBI, 17 runs scored, five doubles and three triples in 47 contests. It'll probably take more than one productive effort to regain a starting role -- at best, Rivera's looking at a short-side platoon role, though manager Mike Matheny doesn't often employ such timeshares.

Edward Olivares - Tallies two hits Sunday Olivares went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs, two RBI and a walk in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Tigers.

Impact Olivares was out of the lineup for two of the four games leading up to Sunday's matchup, but he was one of four Royals to record multiple hits during the series finale against Detroit. Over his seven games since returning to the field, the 26-year-old has hit .208 with three homers, five runs and five RBI.

Impact Barlow has had plenty of high-leverage opportunities recently, and he's picked up saves in four of his last five outings dating back to June 24. The righty has a 2.25 ERA and 1.03 WHIP this season, both of which would be the best marks of his career. He earned a career-high 16 saves last year and is on pace to eclipse that mark in 2022 since he's converted 12 of 14 save chances to begin the year.

Brady Singer - Strikes out nine Sunday Singer allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out nine in 4.2 innings during Sunday's win over the Tigers. He didn't factor into the decision.

Impact Singer had his shortest start of the season during Sunday's outing, but he matched his season-high mark in strikeouts during the victory. In spite of his strong strikeout rate, he was held out of the win column for a fourth consecutive outing. The right-hander has given up at least seven runs in each of his last seven starts, and he's posted a 5.54 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 39 innings during that time. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Guardians on Friday.
