Brendan White - Still shut down with injuryWhite experienced elbow discomfort during a bullpen session in July and hasn't been cleared to resume a rehab assignment, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ImpactWhite has been dealing with elbow issues dating back to spring training, but after being optioned to Toledo on March 8, he made enough progress in his recovery to avoid a stint on the club's 7-day injured list to begin the season. However, White was eventually moved to the development list in mid-April after issuing six walks in 1.2 innings over his first three appearances, and he hasn't made an appearance at the Triple-A level since. White retains a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster and currently resides on Double-A Erie's 7-day injured list.

Gio Urshela - Reaches twice in lossUrshela went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Royals.
ImpactIt was a productive afternoon for Urshela, who's been struggling lately. The veteran came into Sunday batting just .083 in his previous 10 games. With Bligh Madris swinging a hot bat since getting promoted from Triple-A Toledo in late July, there is suddenly more competition for playing time at first base. However, even if Urshela cedes time to Madris at first moving forward, the former can also play at third, which is where he was positioned Sunday.

Mason Englert - Shelved with elbow inflammationTriple-A Toledo placed Englert on its 7-day injured list July 6 with right elbow inflammation, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ImpactEnglert produced a 5.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over his 11 relief appearances for the Tigers before he was optioned to Triple-A on June 25. He made just three appearances for Toledo before being shut down with the elbow injury.

Eddys Leonard - Back in action at Triple-ALeonard (hamstring) has gone 1-for-7 over two games since being reinstated from Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list Friday.
ImpactLeonard returned to action for Toledo earlier this weekend for the first time since straining his right hamstring June 25 while running the bases, per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. The 23-year-old infielder has now had two extended absences this season, as he was also sidelined from April 8 through May 20 with a left oblique strain.

Shelby Miller - Melts down in lossMiller (5-7) allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while retiring only two batters to take the loss Sunday against the Royals.
ImpactMiller got the top of the ninth inning in a game the Tigers led 2-0, with regular closer Jason Foley having pitched two innings Saturday. For the second straight time, Miller allowed at least three runs in an outing, pushing his season ERA up to an ugly 5.85. The veteran righty has also now blown six save chances this year. Miller had a solid July, posting a 0.68 ERA across 13.1 innings and recording two saves, but things have come undone so far in August.
