Target Field, Minneapolis, MN
Sonny Gray - Managing pectoral sorenessGray was diagnosed with right pectoral soreness after leaving Sunday's start against Kansas City, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ImpactThe veteran right-hander fired six scoreless innings before suffering the injury during the seventh inning, and the one runner he left on base was allowed to score by the bullpen. Gray remains in line to pick up his third straight win, but his health is obviously the more pressing concern. The severity of the injury remains unclear, leaving Gray's availability in question going forward.

Sonny Gray - Leaves with apparent arm issueGray was removed from Sunday's start against the Royals with an apparent arm injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
ImpactGray limited Kansas City to one single through six scoreless frames but gave up a leadoff single during the seventh and exited during the middle of the following at-bat. The 32-year-old appeared to be stretching out his right arm/shoulder before leaving the field with the training staff. It's unclear whether he'll be available for his next turn through the rotation.

Royce Lewis - Exits after collision with wallLewis was removed from Sunday's game against the Royals in the top of the fourth inning with right knee pain, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
ImpactFresh off his promotion from Triple-A St. Paul earlier in the day, Lewis was immediately inserted as the Twins' starting center fielder in Sunday's series finale while Byron Buxton handled designated-hitter duties. After flying out in his lone plate appearance in the second inning, Lewis made an excellent catch in the top of the third to rob Emmanuel Rivera of a potential extra-base hit, but he banged into the wall hard while flagging down the pop fly and is now dealing with an injury. Though Lewis initially stayed in the game, he was removed an inning later in favor of Nick Gordon. Expect the Twins to provide a firmer diagnosis of the injury later in the day, but assuming Lewis isn't dealing with anything more than a day-to-day concern related to the same knee in which he suffered an ACL tear last February, he could be primed to fill a near-everyday utility role for Minnesota while bouncing between a number of different positions.

Trevor Larnach - Blasts second homerLarnach went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a pair of walks Saturday in the Twins' 7-3 loss to the Royals.
ImpactAfter coming around to score once while walking three times in Friday's 10-7 win, Larnach turned in another strong day at the plate even though his efforts weren't enough to give the Twins a victory. Still, the consecutive solid performances should give Larnach some security as the Twins' primary left fielder, even after versatile top prospect Royce Lewis was summoned from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of Sunday's series finale. With Byron Buxton serving as the Twins' designated hitter Sunday, Larnach and Lewis will share the outfield with Kyle Garlick, who is covering right field.

Nick Gordon - Back on benchGordon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
ImpactGordon started the past two games in the Minnesota outfield, going 3-for-8 with a double, three RBI and a run. Though Max Kepler (quadriceps) remains out of the lineup Sunday, the Twins brought up top prospect Royce Lewis from Triple-A St. Paul. He'll start in center field in Sunday's series finale and looks poised to get regular work out of the outfield while Kepler is out, so Gordon should find himself in a reserve role on a more permanent basis.

Sam Freeman - Returns from injury WednesdayFreeman (undisclosed) allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in one inning versus Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
ImpactFreeman missed most of May with the undisclosed injury. The 34-year-old hasn't appeared at the major-league level since he logged seven outings with the Nationals in 2020, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him spend most of 2022 with Triple-A Omaha.
