ImpactOlivares entered Tuesday on an 0-for-10 skid. He snapped it with a second-inning single, then stole second and scored on a Matt Duffy single. It's too soon to say Olivares is turning things around, but this was his second straight game with a steal, and he now has five thefts this season. He's also slashing .233/.303/.392 with three home runs, nine RBI and 18 runs scored through 132 plate appearances.

Scott Barlow - Clean inning for fifth saveBarlow struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Padres.
ImpactBarlow's pitched 9.2 consecutive scoreless innings, and he hasn't allowed a baserunner in his last three outings. Saves remain hard to come by -- he hadn't converted one since April 29, though the Royals hadn't produced a save opportunity in that span. The right-hander's recent work should keep him in place as the primary closer. He's bounced back from a rough start to the year to get his ERA down to 3.86 with a 1.22 WHIP, 23:8 K:BB and five saves in 16 appearances (16.1 innings) this season.

Brady Singer - Decent in winSinger (3-4) earned the win Tuesday over the Padres, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings.
ImpactThe Royals' defense let Singer down in the fifth inning, and he had some more trouble in the sixth. The bullpen was able to preserve a one-run lead over the last three frames to end his three-start winless skid. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 7.09 with a 1.53 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB through 45.2 innings over nine starts. Singer's very rarely been anywhere between excellent or awful this season, with this start being the most moderate of the bunch. He's projected for two starts next week, with the first likely at home against the Tigers.

ImpactLugo may not have been long for the outing anyway as he allowed five runs over two innings in the loss to Kansas City, but unfortunately the injury will likely keep him from being able to pitch again this weekend. The Padres could turn to Ryan Weathers if Lugo required a stint on the injured list, but for now the right-hander should be considered day-to-day.
