Jordan Hicks - Won't start this weekManager Oliver Marmol said Hicks is tentatively lined up to make his first start of the season Tuesday against the Marlins in Miami, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat repo...
ImpactHicks initially appeared poised to pick up two turns through the rotation this week, but postponements of Monday's game against Pittsburgh and Wednesday's game against Kansas City will result in the 25-year-old having to wait a little longer for his first MLB start. Marmol noted that Hicks will be available in relief for the team's four-game series in Milwaukee that begins Thursday, so it's not a lock that the right-hander will be ready to take the hill in Miami if he's pressed into extended innings out of the bullpen against the Brewers. Whenever Hicks does make his first start, he's expected to be capped at around 45 pitches before steadily increasing his pitch count in his subsequent outings.

Dakota Hudson - Next start coming SundayManager Oliver Marmol said Hudson will make his second start of the season Sunday in Milwaukee, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ImpactHudson looked as though he might miss out on a two-start week after the Cardinals' game Wednesday against the Royals was rained out, but he'll remain on his normal four days' rest to take the hill Sunday after Marmol opted to push No. 5 starter Jordan Hicks back in the pitching schedule. The 27-year-old righty will be looking for better results in Milwaukee after taking a no-decision in his season debut against Kansas City on Tuesday. Hudson worked four innings in the Cardinals' 6-5 win, giving up three earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four.

Carlos Santana - Little production out of No. 5 spotSantana will start at first base and bat fifth in Thursday's game against the Tigers.
ImpactSantana has batted out of the No. 5 spot in each of the Royals' games to date, but hitting directly beyond four-time Silver Slugger winner Salvador Perez has yet to bear fruit for the veteran. Through 19 plate appearances, Santana has produced one hit (a double) and has drawn three walks. On a positive note, Santana has struck out just once, so he hasn't looked completely lost at the plate. Expect his average to climb once his .067 BABIP normalizes.

Nicky Lopez - Back to No. 9 spotLopez will start at second base and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Tigers.
ImpactLopez served as the Royals' No. 8 hitter in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to St. Louis, but he's otherwise slotted in at the bottom of the order in each of Kansas City's games this season. With Adalberto Mondesi back to full health and with Bobby Witt breaking camp with the big club, the Royals don't have room for Lopez near the top of the lineup, even though he posted a .365 on-base average in 2021 and finished the campaign as the team's No. 2 hitter. For his part, Lopez hasn't let the move down the lineup affect his performance thus far, as he enters Thursday's game with a .357/.400/.429 slash line across 16 plate appearances.

Alec Marsh - Whiffs nine in 2022 debutMarsh (undisclosed) covered 4.2 innings for Double-A Northwest Arkansas in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Wichita, striking out nine while allowing two earned runs on two hits and two wa...
ImpactMarsh didn't make any appearances after June 15 of last season due to an unspecified injury, but he's seemingly back to full health to begin the 2022 campaign. He pitched well in his season debut Wednesday, pumping in 52 of 77 pitches for strikes while holding opposing hitters to a .125 average on the night. Since Marsh only made six starts for Northwest Arkansas in 2021, the Royals may want to give the 23-year-old an extended look at Double-A to begin the season before entertaining a promotion to Triple-A Omaha.
