MJ Melendez - Debuting as designated hitterMelendez will make his major-league debut Tuesday against the Cardinals, batting seventh while serving as the designated hitter, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ImpactMelendez didn't get off to a great start this season, hitting .167/.286/.295 in 21 games for Triple-A Omaha, but his bat is supposed to be what carries his profile, as he hit .288/.386/.625 with 41 homers across the two highest levels of the minors last season. That should earn him some starts as the designated hitter, but he could also see time behind the plate when Salvador Perez fills the DH spot.

Edward Olivares - Getting start against right-handerOlivares will start in right field and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.
ImpactThe righty-hitting Olivares was expected to fill a short-side platoon role in right field after Adalberto Mondesi's (knee) season-ending injury resulted in Whit Merrifield moving back to the infield last week, but the Royals may instead be giving Olivares a trial in a near-everyday role. He'll remain in the lineup Tuesday over the lefty-hitting Kyle Isbel, despite the fact that the Cardinals are bringing a right-hander (Dakota Hudson) to the hill. Olivares, who also led off against Cardinals lefty Steven Matz in Monday's 1-0 loss, has gone 6-for-15 with a double, a stolen base and two runs over the Royals' last six games.

Kyle Isbel - On bench versus rightyIsbel is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThe lefty-hitting Isbel was on the bench in Monday's 1-0 loss to the Cardinals with southpaw Steven Matz on the hill for St. Louis, but the former's absence from the lineup Tuesday comes as a bigger surprise since the right-handed Dakota Hudson is starting for the opposition. Edward Olivares will pick up his fourth start in five games in right field and could be receiving a look in an everyday role at the position rather than as a short-side platoon player.

Hunter Dozier - Sitting out TuesdayDozier is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ImpactHe'll sit for the second time in three games as the Royals clear a spot in the lineup at designated hitter for recent call-up MJ Melendez, who will make his MLB debut Tuesday. Dozier still looks to be fairly secure in a regular role, but his underwhelming .680 OPS on the season may put him at risk of losing out on at-bats if he's unable to show dramatic improvement in his subsequent starts.

Corey Dickerson - Idle against rightyDickerson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe lefty-hitting Dickerson typically handles the strong side of a platoon at designated hitter, but he'll take a seat Tuesday in favor of the righty-hitting Albert Pujols even with Kansas City bringing a right-hander (Brad Keller) to the mound. Dickerson's move to the bench may just be a byproduct of the Cardinals wanting to find more work for Pujols, who has received only 20 plate appearances in seven games over the past two weeks.

Tommy Edman - Back in action TuesdayEdman (hip) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Royals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ImpactJust as manager Oliver Marmol suggested was the case, the left hip flexor soreness that Edman experienced in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks was never a major concern, even though the 26-year-old was out of the lineup for Monday's 1-0 win over Kansas City. Edman's re-entry into the starting nine a day later implies that he was on the bench Monday mainly for precautionary purposes, so fantasy managers should bank on him playing in each of the Cardinals' remaining six games this week.

Steven Matz - Placed on bereavement listMatz was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday.
ImpactPlayers may spend between three and seven days on the bereavement list. Matz started Monday against the Royals, so his next turn in the rotation lines up to come Saturday in San Francisco. He'll be eligible to return by then, but it's possible his next outing will be slightly delayed.
