Inks minor-league deal with Pirates Mella reported to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday after recently signing a minor-league contract with the Pirates, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.

Impact Mella was DFA'd by the Diamondbacks in mid-June and the right-hander was later released on July 28. The reliever has pitched in the majors in five different seasons, with his best showing coming a year ago when he posted a 1.80 ERA across 10 innings with Arizona. He'll report to Indianapolis for the time being but could become an option to join the Pittsburgh bullpen later in 2021.

Impact Just over a month after removing Mella from the 40-man roster, the Diamondbacks elected to part ways with the 28-year-old right-hander entirely in order to prioritize other pitchers at Triple-A Reno. Over his 29 innings at Triple-A this season, Mella posted a 4.34 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. He'll look to secure a minor-league deal with another organization.
