Inks $182 million deal with Rockies Bryant agreed to a seven-year, $182 million contract with the Rockies on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Impact Colorado is just over a year removed trading away Nolan Arenado to St. Louis, but the Rockies have now secured a new star player with the ability to play third base. Although Bryant saw most of his time at the hot corner early in his career, he's displayed a willingness to play in the outfield in recent seasons and is a likely fit as the team's primary left fielder given Ryan McMahon's promising results at third base in 2021, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. He's also an option to play in right field if the Rockies choose to utilize Charlie Blackmon as their primary designated hitter. Bryant split the 2021 campaign between the Cubs and Giants, and he hit .265/.353/.481 with 25 home runs, 86 runs, 73 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 144 games. The 30-year-old will now also have the benefit of calling hitter-friendly Coors Field home for the foreseeable future. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the contract includes a full no-trade clause, so Bryant will have to approve of any potential deal should either side decide to move on.
