Kyle Garlick, Twins overcome extra-innings futility to defeat Indians 8-5 in 10 innings Garlick belted a three-run homer in the 10th to give the Twins their first extra-inning victory in nine tries this season.
Making another start vs. RHP Garlick will start in right field and bat eighth Wednesday against the White Sox.
Impact Garlick has seen most of his starts against left-handed pitching this season, but he'll draw into the lineup for a second straight game against a right-hander (Lucas Giolito) after facing off against Lance Lynn in Tuesday's 5-4 win. Though he's gone 0-for-9 over his past two starts and is sitting on an underwhelming .269 on-base average for the season, Garlick looks poised to stick in a near-everyday role for the time being due to the Twins' lack of healthy alternatives in the outfield. All of Byron Buxton (hip), Alex Kirilloff (wrist) and Jake Cave (back) currently reside on the injured list.

Impact Garlick took Detroit starter Tarik Skubal deep on the fifth pitch of the game. The homer was Garlick's first of the season. He's played a part-time role for Minnesota with four RBI and seven runs scored in 45 plate appearances. The 29-year-old could play a more significant role in the short term with Byron Buxton (hip) expected to miss multiple weeks.

Returning from COVID IL Garlick was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Impact The 29-year-old tested positive for the virus in mid-April but has cleared league protocols and will rejoin the team on the final day of the month. Garlick appeared in 12 games prior to the absence and went 7-for-25 with three doubles, three RBI and six runs. He should work as a reserve outfielder with Max Kepler also returning from the COVID-19 IL.
