Impact McCann had been limited to a trio of pinch-hit appearances since his last turn in the starting nine nearly two weeks prior. The rookie backstop's bat faded over the latter portion of the season after a hot start to his big-league career, but his nine extra-base hits, 15 RBI, 15 walks, 13 runs, .241 batting average and .700 OPS give him a foundation to build on going into his first offseason as a major-league player.

Impact McCann drew one of his infrequent starts behind the plate and drove home the Athletics' only run with a fifth-inning single that plated Zack Gelof. The rookie had last accounted for an RBI on July 28, and he's sporting a .248 average and .705 OPS over his modest 140 plate-appearance tally this season.

Impact Shea Langeliers got a rare day off Thursday, affording McCann his first start since Aug. 21. The rookie backstop managed to knock through his first hit since July 28, but he struck out in three of his other four plate appearances. McCann now sits on a .254/.338/.390 slash line across 133 plate appearances this season and is likely to continue seeing sporadic opportunity down the stretch.
