Impact Stassi was behind the plate for the final two games of the Angels' weekend series in Detroit, but he was on the bench for consecutive games Wednesday and Friday while he works through a prolonged slump at the plate. He didn't take much of a meaningful step forward over the weekend by going 1-for-8, and he's now slashing .088/.139/.088 with a 27.8 percent strikeout rate over his last nine games. Kurt Suzuki will step in at catcher Tuesday and could work his way into a timeshare arrangement with Stassi if the latter's bat fails to heat up anytime soon.

Impact Ohtani was removed from the contest when his third turn in the batting order came up in the fifth, as Kurt Suzuki came off the bench to pinch hit for the two-way standout. The stomach illness explains at least in part why Ohtani might have labored through one of his worst starts of the season on the mound, as he needed 85 pitches to record 12 outs and threw only 47 strikes. Assuming he's quickly able to move past the stomach ailment, Ohtani shouldn't be forced to miss a turn through the rotation, but his availability for Monday's game in Tampa Bay as a designated hitter is more of a question mark.

Andrew Velazquez - Hits homer in loss Velazquez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Saturday in a loss to the Tigers.
Impact Velazquez's second-inning solo shot gave the Angels a 2-0 lead, but the team scored only one more run the rest of the game. The homer was his first since June 28 -- a span of 35 games. Velazquez is slashing a paltry .184/.227/.277 this season, so he's a fantasy consideration only for those very desperate for steals, of which he has 13 in 14 attempts.

Reid Detmers - Surrenders 10 hits in loss Detmers (4-4) took the loss against Detroit on Saturday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 4.1 innings.
Impact Detmers had been on a roll entering the contest, posting a 1.50 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 11.8 K/9 over six starts since his July 8 return from the minors. However, he clearly lacked his best stuff against the Tigers, as he recorded only three strikeouts and and surrendered four extra-base hits (all doubles). The Angels will hope that this was merely a blip on the radar and not an indication that Detmers is dealing with any sort of physical issue. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, the rookie's velocity was down a tick in the outing, so that's something to keep an eye on moving forward.

Impact Trout's presence in the lineup was a welcome sight for the Angels (not to mention fantasy managers who roster him), as the superstar slugger missed over a month of action due inflammation in his left rib cage. The veteran outfielder fouled out in his first at-bat, ripped a 112 mph single in his second and struck out in his final two trips to the plate. Trout said Friday that he'll need to do about 15 extra minutes of pregame work in order to get ready to play, but he added that he plans to be in the lineup every day, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
