Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander pitched five solid innings in his final spring training tune-up Sunday and pronounced himself healthy and ready to start the season

Taylor Ward - Back in action SundayWard (undisclosed) is starting in right field and batting fifth in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
ImpactWard was scratched from Saturday's lineup for unspecified reasons but will quickly return to the field Sunday. The 28-year-old is set to operate as the Angels' fourth outfielder to begin the season and should see more opportunities after Justin Upton was designated for assignment.

Nick Madrigal - Plays in intrasquad gameMadrigal (leg) was spotted playing second game during an intrasquad scrimmage at big-league camp Sunday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ImpactMadrigal remains out of the Cubs' Cactus League lineup Sunday for the fourth day in a row, but his ability to play his normal defensive position in an intrasquad game implies that his recent bout with leg fatigue isn't anything to worry about as Opening Day approaches. The 25-year-old is expected to be a fixture in the Cubs' everyday lineup against both left- and right-handed pitching, likely hitting out of the bottom half of the order.

Michael Rucker - Likely to make rosterRucker seems likely to secure an Opening Day bullpen spot with the Cubs, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ImpactRucker appeared in 20 games with the Cubs last season, and although he posted an inflated 6.99 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, his 30 strikeouts across 28.1 innings does show some promise. The righty is unlikely to be a high-leverage arm, but he can give Chicago multiple innings out of the bullpen and may snag a few cheap wins here and there.

Robert Gsellman - Unlikely to make rosterGsellman will likely begin the year in the minors, though he could get called up later if he pitches well there, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ImpactGsellman appeared in 17 games for the Mets last season and logged 119.2 innings for New York working as a starter back in 2017, so he certainly has plenty of MLB experience. However, he's on a minor-league deal with the Cubs, and the team doesn't seem to have an open MLB bullpen spot for the 28-year-old. Gsellman could work his way into the mix at some point, though his fantasy value seems fairly limited.
APRIL 3, 2022ROTOWIRE
Alfonso Rivas - Making case for roster spotRivas has been playing well this spring and could make the Opening Day roster, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThrough 11 games of Cactus League action, Rivas is batting .391 with a 1.109 OPS. The 25-year-old is on the Cubs' 40-man roster, so the team could more easily keep him around as a reserve infielder to begin the season. Rivas also has options remaining, so Chicago could move him between the majors and Triple-A Iowa as needed. Right now, it doesn't look like Rivas will play enough to have much fantasy appeal, but he could be intriguing if his role expands.
