José Rojas - In play for roster spotRojas has the "slight edge" for a spot on the Angels' Opening Day roster if the team decides to carry nine rather than 10 relief pitchers, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ImpactJoe Maddon indicated Monday that Los Angeles is still deciding whether to carry nine or 10 relievers at the start of the season, and the team has yet to finalize its roster. If the Angels do indeed decide to go with a nine-man bullpen, Rojas is the slight favorite over Michael Stefanic to earn the team's final roster spot. The 29-year-old swung a hot bat this spring, slashing .444/.545/.926 with three home runs, eight RBI and a 6:3 BB:K.

Will Smith - Has up-and-down springSmith finished Cactus League play hitting only .179, but four of his five hits went for extra bases, and he tallied two homers along with four RBI.
ImpactSmith began last season in a projected timeshare with Austin Barnes, but he eventually captured primary catcher duties with a standout campaign, and he's expected to log the bulk of the playing time behind the plate along with occasional DH duties in 2022. The 27-year-old has largely been targeted as a top-three catcher in fantasy drafts this season, and his combination of power and on-base skills justifies that expectation.

Oliver Ortega - Vying for spot in Opening Day penOrtega is among multiple Angels relievers competing for spots at the back end of the bullpen, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ImpactOrtega has only 9.1 innings of major-league experience to his name, and he wasn't overly impressive in posting a 4.82 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 4:2 K:BB in those frames last season. However, the right-hander put together a strong spring, holding opponents scoreless and giving up just three hits over six innings. He struck out only two batters but has shown the ability to rack up whiffs over larger sample sizes in the minors.

Austin Warren - Competing for roster spotWarren is among several Angels relievers vying to make the Opening Day roster, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThe Angels have multiple bullpen arms competing for a few roster spots, and Warren figures to be among the leaders of that group. The right-hander helped his case with a strong spring, allowing just one run over 6.2 innings and posting a 5:3 K:BB. Warren logged 20.1 relief innings as a rookie last season, impressing with a 1.77 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB.

José Suarez - Opening season in rotationSuarez is projected to be one of the Angels' six starters this season, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ImpactSuarez notched a 4.44 ERA across 14 starts for the Angels last season, and that was enough for the team to give him the chance to retain his role in the rotation to begin 2022 despite the fact that his numbers (including a 1.98 ERA) were better out of the bullpen. The southpaw fared well enough in Cactus League play, posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB across 10 innings. He likely won't have a long leash if he struggles out of the gate during the regular season, however.

Jared Walsh - Caps productive springWalsh drew a walk across three plate appearances Tuesday in the Angels' exhibition loss to the Dodgers.
ImpactWalsh finished Cactus League play with a .313/.421/.438 slash line, one home run and six RBI over 38 plate appearances. He's ascended to top-10 status among first basemen in fantasy with two straight standout campaigns and figures to get plenty of opportunities to produce this season hitting in a lineup that includes Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon.
