Caleb Smith - Can't escape second inningSmith (3-8) lost Sunday's 13-0 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing five runs on three hits and five walks with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
ImpactSmith got through the first inning having thrown 28 pitches after walking two but encountered serious trouble in the second. The left-hander loaded the bases with none out, retired two, then surrendered a walk and two hits that plated five Dodger runs before being removed having tossed 70 baseballs. Smith has now lost six of his last seven starts and seen his ERA climb from 3.21 to 5.04 during the slump.
