David Price - Not yet built upManager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Price is unlikely to begin the season as a starter since he isn't yet built up, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.ImpactRoberts said early in camp that Price was "in the mix" for a rotation spot, but the southpaw apparently hasn't been able to build up his pitch count quickly enough to begin the year as a starter. Instead, Tony Gonsolin is the leading candidate for the fifth rotation spot, while Andrew Heaney will likely start during the team's first turn through the rotation. Once he's built up, Price could still contend for a starting job, but he appears more likely to serve as a swingman after he posted a 4.03 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 73.2 innings across 39 appearances (11 starts) in 2021.
