Undergoes surgery on thumb Arraez underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Impact Arraez initially injured the thumb back in late June but played through the issue for the remainder of the season. The expectation is that he will be ready for the start of spring training. Arraez will be eligible for salary arbitration this offseason for the final time.

Arraez's .314 batting average is the only thing standing in the way of Shohei Ohtani's pursuit of the Triple Crown. Jurickson Profar will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the leadoff spot against Diamondbacks southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez.

Impact Arraez sustained a lower-body injury in Monday's 3-1 win in the series opener, but he was back in the lineup for Tuesday's 4-3 loss, serving as the Padres' designated hitter while going hitless in five at-bats. The Padres haven't indicated that Arraez experienced a setback Tuesday, but the recent injury coupled with a matchup against a tough lefty (Framber Valdez) may have factored into manager Mike Shildt's decision to give the 27-year-old the night off. Arraez had started in each of the Friars' previous 15 games.
